The market research institute RAAD Research surveyed 800 finance and IT managers from medium-sized companies with an average of 100 - 500 employees. Only the metalworking, machinery, vehicle and apparatus engineering sectors were surveyed. The surprising result of the study was that 13 percent of the manufacturing companies plan to open new domestic and foreign locations in the next two years. In spite of these planned expansions, a quarter of the respondents said that they had only a one-off IT data exchange. 13 per cent of the participants even said they were not connected at all and there was no need to see them.
However, the importance of consolidated IT landscapes will continue to play an increasingly important role in the future. Increasing competition and cost pressure, more customer service, business mergers: The reasons for distributed locations are as diverse as the companies themselves. ERP or PDM systems like Teamcenter Multisite can help.
